It’s difficult for house producers to adopt new sounds without alienating the genre’s diehards, but Dillon Nathaniel has accomplished exactly that. Ahead of his upcoming EP, Pressure, the L.A. producer has delivered a tasteful yet gripping single of the effort’s namesake.
“Pressure” demonstrates Nathaniel’s understanding of house music’s subtle nuances while simultaneously allowing him to flex his skills as a producer. Above all else, the quality of the music shines through. Centered around a smooth, metallic bass line, the track’s sound design subtlety places it in a category of its own.
Nathaniel may have garnered worldwide renown somewhat recently, but his credentials extend much further back. Exposed to house and techno icons like Carl Cox and Sasha from the age of eight, he’s well steeped in electronic music’s sophisticated side.
On the topic of his upcoming EP, Nathaniel has said:
“This EP is dedicated to those who overcome all of life’s obstacles. When the music hits the pressure of life fades away. The everyday struggles of life can be too much to bear. Everyday we’re faced with challenges and we have to make a choice; do we let the negativity of the world affect the way we see it, or do we count our blessings? Learning to live with the pressures from our past, present and future is to live with peace of mind.”
Dillon Nathaniel’s Pressure EP arrives in full on Big Beat Records February 22nd. In the meantime, stream or download the title track across platforms here.
