Armin van Buuren - Be In The Moment

Armin van Buuren – Be In The Moment (ASOT 850 Anthem)

Armin van Buuren, trance legend and label head of Armada Music, has been curating his globally famous radio show A State of Trance since 2001. Every year there is an official ASOT Anthem, and this year, he brings you his original psytrance track titled “Be In The Moment”. It is the official anthem for ASOT 850 and it is sure to be a complete dance floor banger!

The track begins with ominous synthesized sounds that quickly transition into a repetitive bass pattern, providing a perfect medium for the build into the first drop. Psytrance drops are typically implemented with a huge build that climaxes into an extremely syncopated hard and driving bass line that gradually adds in different percussive elements. The track is riddled with breakdowns, variations of the melodic line, and vocal samples. It’s great to see a darker and harder trance side of Armin for this year’s anthem. Armin is known for his beautiful melodies, along with his fusion of different trance styles – and this track is no exception, be sure to give it a listen below!

MTV EMA Best Electronic Goes To…David Guetta?

david guetta wins mtv ema

The MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) were last night, and the results for the Best Electronic artist were surprising. Up against Martin Garrix (DJ Mag’s #1 rated DJ for 2017), Calvin Harris, Major Lazer, and The Chainsmokers, it was David Guetta who emerged victorious. For die-hard EDM fans, those nominees don’t really make sense to begin with. For Guetta to win after releasing three songs in 2017 is surprising, but speaks to the popularity and star power of a major collaborator like Justin Bieber.

Martin Garrix won the EMA for the category last year, and The Chainsmokers did pull out a win in the Best World Stage category for 2017. It is still a surprise that Calvin Harris, the highest-paid DJ in the world, and The Chainsmokers with a hugely successful album released in 2017, both lost out.

The MTV Europe Music Awards first started in 1994 as an alternative to the MTV Video Music Awards. Since 2007, the awards show has taken fan voting into account, which obviously leads to some surprising results. David Guetta previously won in 2012, and lost out the last three years to Calvin Harris (2014) and Martin Garrix (2015-2016). Guetta’s collaboration with Justin Bieber ‘2U‘ is his second most streamed song behind ‘Titanium‘, and likely the reason for his win.

Hackers Fool iPhone X’s Face ID With A Mask

Just how reliable is the iPhone X‘s face ID feature? Well, just a bit over a week since the release of Apple‘s newest product, it seems like the the face lock function has been figured out. Vietnamese security firm, Bkav, has recently released a video claiming that they have broken pass the face ID feature with the help of just a few tools that will only cost you around $150. According to Bkav, they created a mask using a 3-D printer, make up, some silicone and 2-D printed paper eyes which fooled the phone into falsely recognizing the user. You can check out the process in full in the video below.

When the first ever iPhone was released, the only passcode offered was the 4-digit password. A few models later, Apple introduced the fingerprint ID that we have all grown to love. The fingerprint ID made accessing your phone a lot easier but that feature was supposedly figured out only a few days after it was released. Then most recently, the new face ID feature was supposed to provide an even more convenient and secure way for the user to access their phone. However, it seems like these features can be easily broken with just a couple bucks and a bit of effort. Does this change the way you perceive the iPhone X?

David Gravell – Addicted To

David Gravell – Addicted To

David Gravell continues to impress with his new single ‘Addicted To’. Gravell’s new single will be featured on W&W’s high-voltage label Mainstage Music. The Dutch DJ has already received high praise for ‘Addicted To’ from an array of artists including Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, and W&W. Once you hear it, you’ll understand why.

This big-room trance banger might need a warning sign before pressing play. Gravell engineered this tune to be ground shaking from start to finish. The first drop 15 seconds in sets the tone with a heavy big-room sound. Adding in a vocal sample, Gravell bridges the drops with classic anthemic trance chords and then brings you back to the energy.

You can hear David Gravell’s ‘Addicted To’ below. It’s available now!

Electric Forest Reveals First 2018 Artists

Electric Forest

Electric Forest Is Closer Than You Think

Rejoice fans of Electric Forest Festival. The first artists for 2018’s lineup have been revealed! On November 12th Electric Forest hosted a free event at Necto in Ann Arbor, Michigan. And anyone who made it to the show definitely got a few surprises. Besides getting to watch Forest regular Space Jesus throw down an extended set, attendees also received chances at free tickets and were the first to hear which performers would be returning to Forest next year. Electric Forest promoters put on a fantastic and unique event. But it would be foolish to expect a normal event from the Forest crew.

Aside from the music, participants had chances to complete Word Searches and other games to try and figure out the artist announcements. Dance competitions hosted by the event crowned winners and loser, with an EF2018 ticket on the line! They even brought the infamous Electric Forest elephant to Ann Arbor. And although the event was supposed to end at 9:30, Space Jesus kept the party rolling much later into the night.

Including their DJ for the night, Electric Forest announced the first twenty-four acts that will light up the Forest in 2018. G Jones and Eprom are both back, presumably with their new B2B project playing a part in their performances. Louis the ChildManic Focus, and Rüfüs Dü Sol all made the list with a ton of other artists. But perhaps the biggest name on the list is the infamous Chromeo. 2018 will be the first year Chromeo has ever played Electric Forest. The self titled Funk Lordz will bring their newest album to Rothbury next summer. And on their twitter they announced that “this new album is more funk than ever

Eric Prydz Releases EP Under Tonja Holma Alias

Eric Prydz is man with many different masks. He is himself, Pryda, Cirez D, Moo, as well as a vast array of other identities he once wore in the past. Although another one of his aliases, Tonja Holma, has been around for over a decade, fans are now finally being treated to a brand new EP.

The Tonja Holma alias is not so new. Back in 2007, “Gemo” was premiered in a mix for DJ Mag, and he has previously teased this alias to self-release tracks, including “Spanish Delight” and “Trippleton”, both of which were featured on his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes. Today, he has officially released his Tonja Holma EP on Beatport.

He first announced the project would get a release back in May when he shared the news of a new label, Pryda Presents, which kicked off with Cristoph’s “Feel”. The Tonja EP features four unique songs, including “Spanish Delight” and “Trippleton”, as well as “Loco” and “Global”.

One of the biggest hitting tracks on the EP, “Trippleton”, has been in anticipation amongst Prydz fans for years. All of the tracks are unique to this alter ego, although some of them are very similar to the Prydz sound. Either way, we love it already, and cannot wait to hear them drop in his future sets.

Selena Gomez Performs Marshmello Collaboration “Wolves” During AMAs

Selena Gomez and Marshmello
Selena Gomez had quite the year; she executive produced Netflix‘s “Thirteen Reasons Why,” collaborated with Kygo on “It Ain’t Me” which spent a cozy 29 weeks on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart peaking at No. 10 and solidified her spot in the electronic dance music realm releasing “Wolves” alongside Dotcom Marshmello on Oct. 25. All the while, Gomez underwent a kidney transplant.

Four days ago, Gomez live streamed and recorded an acoustic version of “Wolves” via Instagram minus her mysterious Marshmello counterpart. At the 2017 American Music Awards, Selena will enact a full production of “Wolves” for the first-time ever. According to Forbes, Ms. Gomez will not be “Alone” for the Nov. 19 performance. #mellogang

Shöckface x Armageddon Darkness Falls Over LA

LA’s mysterious Shöckface is back with another banger to set an eerie vibe for a Stranger Things eve, minus entering the upside down.

The darkness of the track is evident from the intro, as the gradual buildup and usage of spacey ambiance blend together perfectly. Avicii Addresses Exhausting Nature Of Touring In Documentary Clip

Intimate Clips From Avicii’s Life Show Disturbing Trends

The news of the new Avicii documentary excited almost everyone in the dance music world. Released for one night only on October 26, 2017, Avicii: True Stories chronicles Tim Bergling’s life for “the past four years.” The project will eventually air on Netflix. Read more on the Avicii documentary in this EDM Tunes article.

The Swedish superstar DJ and producer experienced a meteoric rise to the top. Before ‘Levels‘ ever played on a main stage, Avicii was playing the opening set on the second stage of EDC LA 2010. That 2:00 P.M. crowd of less than 200 people heard ‘Penguin‘ before it became ‘Fade Into Darkness.’  Enthusiastic fans danced alongside local DJ Swedish Egil with more elbow room than an empty restaurant. Two years later Avicii headlined Day 2 of Ultra Music Festival. And it never stopped until Avicii announced he would stop touring.

Fame Takes Its Toll

After he announced his final touring performance at Ushuaia Ibiza, many Avicii fans were devastated. Although he attributed his decision to his decaying health, many of Bergling’s followers expressed outrage. But this new clip from his documentary should silence all naysayers.

In a post on Facebook Avicii included a clip from his documentary. If anyone had any doubts about the seriousness of Avicii’s health issues, this is the proof. In the minute and a half long video the evidence of Bergling’s exhaustion is obvious. The video begins in a hospital, but focuses on a car ride the day after Avicii gets out. He is noticeably exhausted. His eyes stare off into the distance or roll back into his head as he loses focus. He has to catch himself from falling over, as if he is unintentionally dozing off. Yet the entire time his manager is discussing business, talking about the “show” tomorrow, asking if Bergling is able to do an interview to show that he is “back on track,” after the hospital visit. The video clip ends with Avicii passed out in the car wearing sunglasses to block out the light.

The fact the Avicii is willing to share these “gritty” moments of his life stands out as brave and humbling. But it does beg one question. How much is too much for our favorite artists and performers?
