Blasterjaxx Unveil Debut Album, Perspective, on Spinnin’ Records

After two years of intense work, the 23-track album is complete.

Known for their strong, energetic sound and mission to produce music that “makes you feel alive,” Dutch duo Blasterjaxx (real names Thom Jongkind and Idir Makhla) have finally debuted their highly anticipated debut album out now on Spinnin’ Record, as well as their own imprint Maxximize Records.

The 23-track effort, clocking in at a little over an hour’s worth of Blasterjaxx originals, explores the duo’s experimental side and passion for showcasing a variety of moods. Perspective opens with a dramatic, cinematic masterpiece. “Welcome” is a tension-building, vivid soundscape perfectly suited for the listening experience ahead. As the first track fades away, listeners are met with the second track, “Other Side” featuring Drew Ryn, which blends in seamlessly with the first. Drew Ryn, who has climbed her way to the top of iTunes charts multiple times, is the first of many notable singers and songwriters included on the album.

Perspective is packed with addictive melodies, enormous builds, genuine lyrics, and main stage-worthy beats. It was over two years in the making, and Jongkind spoke on how the team approached the project differently:

“We mostly finish a complete track in just a matter of a couple of days. This time we set up writing camps in which we literally spent weeks in vacation parks isolating ourselves. We just took a guitar, microphone, and a laptop and started from scratch. We invited singer/songwriters and just made the best of it. Every production has had a lot of work and eye for details because every track had a different starting point. One track was more tech whilst another would be more indie-dance or big room. In the end, all tracks can be related back to our own sound quite a bit.”

The album continues on to feature sultry vocals from Josie, as well as Envy Monroe who boasts three separate featues on the effort. Perspective is successful in proving the duo’s claim “Bigroom Never Dies.” Their signature sound shines through – and after seven years of dedicating themselves to dance music, it comes as no surprise the act’s passion has taken them across high-profile stages such as Tomorrowland, Ultra Music Festival, and EDC Las Vegas

App Allows Club Goers to Vote on DJ’s Next Track

For many club DJs there is a certain amount dread that comes with requested songs from the crowd. However, a startup company in Toronto is developing an app called PSLY that takes the guesswork out of what the club wants to hear and letting the people vote on what’s next.

The app let’s club attendees vote on which song the DJ should play next during their set. App users are also able to pick a song from their own music library to suggest.

Right now PSLY is available to download in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for free. The concept was first tested in June at Toronto’s Love Child Social House.

The popularity of the app has led to Toronto nightclub Figures to make it a staple at the venue. Every Friday night club goers can set the vibes by requesting songs on the PSLY app.

The creators of the app told blogTO that they want to help people “control the vibe” in Toronto.

It comes as no surprise that some DJs would vote against the app. Active club goers and DJs understand the importance of a well-curated set and apps like this detract from the artistry.

PSLY is working on other applications for the technology. In addition to clubs the app can be utilized at weddings, corporate gatherings and even proms.

While the app is a new, fun and creative concept, it’s unlikely that this will disrupt the natural flow of club DJs and their craftsmanship of a well-thought-out performance.

Prydz spoke with Verge and said:
“Ever since we started doing EPIC our goal has always been to try and blow people away, but in a way that they haven’t been blown away before at an electronic dance music event.” Huge confetti cannons and flamethrowers are very primitive. Tomorrowland 2019’s Stages Revealed [Photos]

Photos from Tomorrowland‘s stages are now available for this year’s rendition spanning over the two weekends between July 19-28. Earlier this month, the festival began to show some big changes by revealing new stages which we went through. Now that the festival is up and running, we received some photos of the new stages with some in action too. Before jumping into all that’s new, Tomorrowland placed an Avicii memento. Dating before the music festival began, fans were quick to point out the book in his name shown below.

Taking off from that point, The Book of Wisdom Mainstage is beginning to shine. Taking to it, performers such as Black Coffee, Steve Aoki, Armin Van Buuren, DJ Snake, Kölsch, and many more will play. In regards to the closing act, fans weren’t happy with the reveal to say the least especially considering expectations. As the festival has it, the time-slot updated to show 3 Are Legend. This closing act will be bringing together Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike alongside Steve Aoki and friends. Oh…and did we mention that The Face has returned for the first time since 2015?!

The stages features 3 books that open up into LED screens.

The Tomorrowland Winter Mainstage was altered and traveled to Belgium to become the Lotus stage. Here it is on its first day with STMPD RCRDS. Martin Garrix‘s label is bringing together its founder closing out the stage after Bebe Rexha, Louis The Child, Vintage Culture and many more.

This year Q-Dance gets its own dedicated stage and it comes straight from Defqon 1. The massive sword towers in the air and can be seen all around the festival grounds.

Apart from the big stages, a newcomer, Kara Savi replacing The Tulip is standing strong with its golden rim.

As the festival continues to run, here are some photos on what you can expect to see from other stages;

Skrillex Releases Surprise EP, Show Tracks

Skrillex is satisfying the demand for two highly coveted songs he’s been playing in his sets.

Speculation of a Skrillex EP release swirled in the news earlier this week – and it’s now been confirmed. Skrillex has dropped his two-track Show Tracks EP alongside collaborators Alvin Risk and Beam.

The EP’s cover art leaked on a Russian social media page earlier this week, but up until the time of its release Skrillex (real name Sonny Moore) had not addressed the rumored EP.

The EP, which is comprised of “Fuji Opener” and “Mumbai Power,” aims to satisfy the demand of fans of who’ve been following Moore’s sets for the last several months. Aside from his tour, he has teased “Fuji Opener” previously on social media, ultimately suggesting this previously untitled track might be primed for an official release.

The EP’s first track also marks Moore and Alvin Risk’s first collaboration in five years since their 2014 dubstep offering “Try It Out.” The second track, “Mumbai Power,” sees Moore swapping the gritty bass lines for big, melodic chords and sweeping soundscapes alongside Beam.

Moore’s next show is scheduled for June 21st at his KAOS residency in Las Vegas. Much like the lead up to the formal release, fans can expect to hear Show Tracks sprinkled in his sets in the foreseeable future.

The latest song by Codeko has summer anthem written all over it.

Every festival season, EDM producers scramble to deliver the anthem that everyone will hum when they think of that summer. For what it’s worth, Codeko‘s latest single is a strong 2019 contender. What he’s delivered in the form of “Daydreaming” hits all the right buttons, and it’s versatile enough to find its way into countless DJ sets.

Tim Plvnk Embraces Summer Poolside Vibes with Deep House Single "Just Tonight"

Released on Tim Plvnk’s Plus Play Recordings, deep house single “Just Tonight” is the perfect addition to your poolside summer playlist.

German DJ and producer Tim Plvnk (real name Timo Stelling) is currently in the midst of a truly meteoric rise in the world of EDM. His debut single “Echo,” released just three months ago in April of 2019, quickly amassed nearly 100,000 streams on Spotify alone. His second release “I Just Want You” caught fire almost immediately, racking up over a million digital streams in under six weeks. It set the stage for his exquisite third single release, “Just Tonight.”

Written in collaboration with Jamaican-American singer and songwriter Bria, who is credited on songs by major artists such as German pop-star Michael Schulte, “Just Tonight” is by far the most vocal-focused track that Stelling has released. Bria’s rich and powerful vocals are underpinned by a vibrant, deep house-inspired instrumental that gives “Just Tonight” a genuine poolside vibe perfectly suited for the sunny summer season.

In just a few short months, Stelling has not only established himself as a force to be reckoned with, but he’s also paved the way for the considerable stash of excellent music yet to come.

Keep a close eye on Tim Plvnk, and be sure to stream or download “Just Tonight” from Plus Play Recordings.

Swedish House Mafia Pull Out of Weekend Festival Performance

Swedish House Mafia have cancelled another stop on their 2019 tour.

Swedish House Mafia‘s highly anticipated reunion tour has seen its second unfortunate cancellation. Last month the EDM supergroup pulled out of their Ultra Korea appearance, and now they’ve announced that they will no longer perform at Weekend Festival in Helsinki, Finland.

A statement posted via the Swedish House Mafia Instagram account cites “production issues that can’t be fixed with such short notice” as grounds for the cancellation. Event organizers echoed the trio’s reasoning in their own statement, revealing plans to find another act to fill the time slot.

Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello capped off a five-year hiatus with a performance at the 2018 edition of Ultra Music Festival. Later in the year they announced that a full reunion tour was in the works, and then they kicked it off in May of 2019 with three consecutive shows in Stockholm.

Fans remain hungry for new music from the trio. Aside from testing out a songs like “Underneath It All” at some of their recent gigs, however, all they’ve officially released thus far is a quirky line of merchandise.

Swedish House Mafia are scheduled to resume touring with a performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza on July 26th.
