Dog Blood Bring Out Ty Dolla $ign to Perform Collaboration in Miami

Skrillex and Boys Noize are back in full force.

The electronic music world has been excited for the return of Skrillex and Boys Noize as Dog Blood for some time now. The producers were scheduled to perform as Dog Blood at Brownies & Lemonade‘s showcase, alongside names such as What So Not, Anna Lunoe, CRAY and Whethan, y they also released their first original music in six years, a versatile house banger titled “Turn Off The Lights.”

With videos of their joint performance circulating over the internet, event organizer Brownies & Lemonade decided to upload a snippet of Skrillex and Boys Noize bringing out rapper/singer Ty Dolla $ign to perform an unreleased Dog Blood collaboration. It was revealed that Skrillex has been in the studio with Ty Dolla $ign, yet no one thought the artists would be working on music that would be released under Dog Blood.

Skrillex and Boys Noize united as Dog Blood in 2012, releasing their debut two-tracker, Next Order / Middle Finger. Middle Finger, Pt. 2 was released in 2013, accompanied by two more original tracks. Since then, the duo has been silent in terms of new music until recently.

No other information regarding a title or release date for Dog Blood’s new single has been revealed at the time of writing.

KFC's Colonel Sanders Performs Mainstage Set at Ultra Music Festival

No one expected this.

News broke out not too long before Ultra Music Festival‘s 21st installment, that KFC‘s late founder and mascot Colonel Sanders would be performing a five-minute main stage set on day one. Fans were surprised and curious to see what the unexpected addition to the lineup meant, with many considering this a major PR stunt for KFC

Fans weren’t able to experience Sanders’ short set, which was in between performances by Dzeko and Nora En Pure, as the live stream was delayed. Yet a Twitter user uploaded it in a short video:

As it turned out, a person with a Colonel Sanders cartoony mask was performing, accompanied by the same character on the visuals. As seen below, artists and fans alike expressed their disappointment in Ultra’s Mainstage “booking.”

Shaq Joins Mosh Pit at NGHTMRE and SLANDER's Ultra Performance

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal makes another surprise music festival appearance this time with NGHTMRE and SLANDER at Ultra Music Festival.

It’s no secret that Shaquille O’Neal is one of EDM’s (literally) biggest treasures. Yesterday, during Gud Vibrations‘ (NGHTMRE and SLANDER) Ultra Music Festival set, the NBA hall of fame center joined Lil Jon and the trio on the main stage.

The two guests were brought out to join fellow collaborator NGHTMRE for their track “Bang.” After pumping up the crowd, Shaq slipped into the mosh pit and threw down to some dubstep and more with fans while Gud Vibrations continued with their set.

Fans were excited and probably slightly terrified to see the seven-foot, 300+ pound NBA star-turned EDM mainstay muscle his way through the mosh pit.

Although Shaq has been DJing for decades, many fans were taken aback by his crossover into the EDM and more specifically, the dubstep world, with his surprise performance at Excision‘s Lost Lands Festival. Prior to that, Shaq hosted his annual Shaq’s Fun House party during Miami Music Week featuring acts like Armin van Buuren, Kaskade, Jauz and more.

The NBA legend has even confirmed that he is working on music with Diplo and that he dreams of collaborating with Skrillex one day.

Armin van Buuren Dishes on Ultra’s New Home, Gaia & More

Miami Music Week is drawing to a close and Ultra Music Festival is settling in to its new home at Virginia Key. Sunday is the holy day of A State of Trance so we sat down with Armin van Buuren ahead of all of the madness to see what he thinks about the changes and what he has in store for us.

On Wednesday you played a really cool downtempo set for Sirius XM. What brought that about?

It was a favor for Sirius, they wanted to do a new thing on their chill channel. I am a big fan of their chill channel. I am one of the biggest fans of ambient, down tempo, and chill stuff. Two years ago I released an album called Club Embrace. It is kind of down tempo and less aggressive mixes of my earlier songs. I was doing a big show in Amsterdam and around the world. I wanted to be the only DJ, would be kind of weird if there was a warmup. So I thought what I am going to do when people walk in? I came up with the idea to do a two/three hour mix of my own songs but down tempo. I approached all my friends in the progressive world and they made these amazing cool remixes. It’s on Spotify, been there for two years.

I won’t do this for a regular thing because people like me for the trance stuff. But you know its Miami and Sirius so – I am glad you liked it.

Thank you guys for all your support. I have been following you stuff as well. It is always important that you guys review something.

In October your Gaia project had a brand new concept show during ADE then went silent? What happened and when will we get new Gaia martial?

I am finishing the album as we speak. With the Gaia project I want to be a little bit more rebellious. I am going to go against the grain a little bit. Obviously the Gaia is everything that Armin is not. Don’t expect any big collaborations, vocal tracks. It is just all live. Normally when you produce an album you would go to the studio and create a bunch of tracks, and they you would compile that and say ‘heres my album.’ For this album, we went completely the other side. We have done the live show, the project is finished, but we actually don’t have the album.

The way we did that is we have a bunch of loops and melodies and sequences. We have live synths and arranged the album live. I just need to fix a few things. What we first want to do is release the album and then a few months later then release the live Paradiso (ADE) set. It is radically different, the themes are the same but mixed in a different way. Because it is in front of a live crowd, it was so much fun to approach it from that way because it was unorthodox and outside of my comfort zone as a DJ. I am going to take my time, I feel it needs to be perfect, I am in no rush. The good news is the live show is done.

So we are ready to go live and it could be anywhere from 15 minutes to 3 hours. It is basically a live jam. We are triggering live sequences, and I am not able to play you a single track. Because it is all loops, I could only play you 4 seconds of loops.

Was it done on Ableton?

Yes, two Ableton sessions. Linked to each other. It was a really good project because it was so far away from Armin van Buuren. I need to finish it soon.

Over the past few years you’ve released a number of big singles, first in the pop-style red radio edit, quickly followed by the club edit. When you create these tracks which version comes first? Do you create the club edits and then strip it down to radio or the reverse?

Mostly we start with the club version. But it is a different time than 10 years ago, the trance world is even though it is super great is a small tight community. Those are always my fans but I want to reach a greater audience and pull them into the trance world. I am trying to find new trance family members. So the idea is get the pop version and then the club version. And sometimes the club version does even better than the radio version. “Wild Wild Son’ did really well in Belgium and the Netherlands but not so much in other countries. The Club version did really well in the States.

Doing the pop version does not guarantee a hit. I just find it exciting but it is just the background you change. It is really hard to make a pop mix of dance track, but it is easy to make a dance track of a pop track.

After years you finally collaborated with Above & Beyond, how was that experience? And is there anything more to come from your time together?

Hopefully, I have a huge amount of respect for the guys. Because we started around the same time, actually my manager helped them set up Anjunabeats and advised them on deals. So we have always had something go on in sync and we at Armada love Anjunabeats. It is so cleaver and clean and I am a fan of their shows.

I have always been good friends with the guys. It took a year actually, I flew to their office to see their operations and how they approached things. We didn’t want to share any hint online because of the pressure. If we had released something online about an Above & Beyond collaboration, everyone would have been [going crazy]. And then the pressure would have been on. I was hoping to release it in October of last year because that was the original plan, but it took a lot of time and effort. There was ongoing discussion of what we should and not do. But I think you can hear both of our sounds in the song. I think it was version 100 that was actually the final version.

It is literally a 50/50 thing with those guys. I learned so much from those guys.

What can we expect out of you sets from Ultra this week?

Well I have a new collaboration coming up, state of Trance 2019, coming out in May. I’ll be dropping tracks from there, a lot of new stuff. Also I am going to be playing more of the stuff you expect me to play. It is going to be a very different Ultra this year so it depends on the crowd. We are in a new location, new megastructure and live stage. So it is a different vibe, and I always look at the crowd and then I decide.

I have a folder of about 100 tracks and 70 of them are brand new. And 30 are more established tracks. The main stage set is more whoops and hops. A lot of exclusives, it is going to be different from what you expect. Everyone expect me to start out with that track I have been starting out with recently, but as itt is the start of the DJ season you have to bring your “A” game.

I am just a little worried that all the fans will get there in one piece. With the transport and I hope the vibe will be like the downtown one. In all honesty, I was really skeptical when they left the other area. I was like “oh my god, that is going to kill the vibe”. I think next year everyone will be happy. It is a strange year, the Swedes are not here, Hardwell is not here but hey I am gonna bring my “A” Game.

Scientific Study Finds "Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites" by Skrillex Stops Mosquitos from Having Sex

Researchers concluded that the observations from this study can be used to help develop new ways to prevent mosquito-carried diseases.

A study recently published in the journal Acta Tropica on mosquito feeding and breeding habits found that the insects are less likely to eat or reproduce when the song “Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites” by Skrillex is playing. The specific type of mosquito researched was the Aedes aegypti, also called the yellow fever mosquito, known to carry a multitude of diseases.

Before detailing the experiment, researchers noted that it is known that electronic music – and more specifically, Skrillex’s breakout single’s low-frequency vibrations – disrupt mating habits in insects. They found that the noise makes it harder for them to receive signals from hosts.

For the experiment, researchers created a “music-on” and “music-off” environment in which they studied the Aedes aegypti and came to some conclusions.

Mosquitos in the music-on environment were less likely to feed on the provided host and were less likely to reproduce than mosquitos in the music-off environment. Researchers believe that these findings can be used to help develop more ways to control Aedes-carried diseases.

The abstract of the full study is available here

DJ IDeaL and Lady Verse Release Official Music Video for 2018 Hit "Keeper"

A milestone release just got a video that does it justice.

DJ IDeaL and Lady Verse blew up the Beatport and Billboard charts last year with the release of their techno/house-infused dance floor filler, “Keeper” via Docka Records. Now that it’s racked up its fair share of accolades, they’ve delivered a music video that adds new dimension to the single.

Interspersed with clips of DJ IDeaL spinning and Lady Verse singing is footage of dancers showcasing moves of their own. Synced up to the thumping bass line and catchy lyrics of “Keeper,” the visual accompaniment reinvigorates the hype of the original release.

DJ IDeaL (real name Tomas Serrano) is a fixture of the SoCal nightlife scene whereas Lady Verse (real name Valen Golden) hails from NYC. Shortly after their creative partnership began, they teamed up on “Keeper.” In addition to remixes hitting #1 on both the Beatport Top 100 Breaks and Future Bass charts, it reached #52 on Billboard‘s Dance Songs: Top Dance Music chart.

On Sunday, March 31st, DJ IDeaL will perform on RESISTANCE Island at the 2019 edition of Ultra Music Festival.

Ultra Offers Shuttle Mea Culpa & Promises Fixes

No doubt your social media feeds are filled with complaints and videos from last night’s Ultra Music Festival bus fiasco. What was planned as an orderly exit system quickly fell apart due to a number of factors, leaving police to tell attendees to walk the approx 2 miles from the Marine Stadium area to Vizcaya area and try their luck from there.

People are throwing around Fyre Fest and TomorrowWorld as comparisons, however it was always expected that a task of this magnitude would encounter difficulty on the first go round. Nevertheless, things looked awfully bad and Ultra offered a mea culpa on Saturday.

Ultra Music Festival Becomes A Fiery Nightmare To Leave

ultraAs one of the most anticipated festivals every year Ultra has become more and more difficult to leave. However, not in the sense of what you imagine. With a new venue Ultra, as great of a festival as is, has its difficulties. As festivalgoers where trying to leave many issues had risen. First, one of the shuttles for the event had crashed into another vehicle where people were being loaded to leave the event. Due to added departure time, many people were frustrated with how long it was taking to leave Ultra’s new venue. Therefore, adding stress not only to attendees, but also security. the video above attendees recorded a stressed out Ultra security guard at the event who, supposedly, was smoking a cigarette tossed it and started a fire. This became larger than anticipated and created more departure issues.
The raging fire was near one of the exits of the event and caused more issues for people to leave. Video has surfaced of people walking down the bridge to downtown Miami taking people up to 2 hours to get to their hotel.

Despite a new venue, Ultra had promised a safe trip for attendees.

UltraSadly, it seems that things have not gone according to plan for the new festival venue. Tell us what you think on our Facebook and Instagram. Hopefully, there are no more issues happen for those attending Ultra.

Fire Breaks Out at Ultra Music Festival 2019

Festival attendees posted videos of what appears to be a tree on fire at Ultra Music Festival 2019.

Near the end of day one’s festivities, Ultra Music Festival attendees captured footage of what appears to be a tree on fire at this year’s event.

Based on the footage, it appears as though the fire is located not too far from the main stage. According to other users on Twitter, a firework accident may have caused the blaze, however that cannot be confirmed.

In addition to the fire, many attendees have mentioned problems with the shuttle service after the show. It is reported that this is due to a bus accident.

At the time of writing, it does not appear as though the fire was spreading and surrounding attendees do not seem very concerned. The footage online shows the fire in a rather contained area away from most people. It’s worth noting that the footage makes it hard to see just how big or small the actual blaze is.

This year’s Ultra is the first year at their new home in Virginia Key rather than their original home, Bayfront Park

This is a developing story, be sure to check back for more updates.

Steve Aoki Hosts All Nippon Airways' New Podcast, Aoki 'N Air

Steve Aoki recounts his own experiences in Japan and discusses the different aspects of Japanese culture in Aoki ‘N Air.

Continuing All Nippon Airways‘ (ANA) quest to encourage people to visit Japan, Steve Aoki has teamed up with the country’s largest airline to bring customers his first speaking podcast.

Spanning five episodes, Aoki ‘N Air will cover Japan’s art, food, music, fashion and some cool places you should visit according to the two-time Grammy-nominated DJ. In each episode, Aoki (along with his long-time manager Dougie Bohay) will reminisce about his memories of Japan and let listeners in on some crazy stories.

New episodes will come out every week until April 17th. If you’re not traveling with ANA at that time, luckily the podcast will also be available on Spotify:

This year’s podcast marks the third time Aoki has contributed to ANA’s Experience Class campaign and content series. And it doesn’t look like it’ll be the last.

On working with ANA, Aoki said:

“I’m on the road 260 days a year so choosing a five-star airline, like ANA, that truly embraces the spirit of Japanese hospitality and delivers an unmatched in-flight experience is so important to me. I’m thrilled to continue my partnership to work with ANA on my dream project – a podcast.”

He then went on to say that “Aoki ‘N Air” is a great way for him to share why Japan is his favorite place in the world and how it allowed him to really delve into his cultural roots and passion for the country.

ANA is just as thrilled to have Aoki onboard. Mika Hayama, the Director of PR & Branding in the Americas, said that the airline was excited to work with the DJ again and they hope “that this new content series resonates with his fans and travelers, and for ANA to be a part of their own personal storytelling experiences.”

Steve Aoki sits down with Dougie Bohay, a longtime friend and member of his management team, as he records his new podcast with All Nippon Airways, “Aoki ‘N Air.”

Previous to the podcast, his last two endeavors with ANA included creating and curating Spotify playlists that were made for U.S. passengers and a video series of his adventures in Japan.

Through the documentary style videos, customers got to see Tokyo from Aoki’s point of view visiting his favorite restaurants, some of the city’s hot-spots and beautiful landmarks that are rich in history.

Between running a pizza chain, making comic books, working on fitness videostouringproducing bangers and now putting together podcasts for flights, is there anything he can’t do? Well, it’s only a matter of time before Aoki reveals his next awesome venture.
