liquid state As the electronic dance music scene expands its horizons, well-known American and European artists have joined the movement. Sony Music & Chinese streaming and tech giant, Tencent Music Entertainment, have teamed up to create a new Asia-based music label: Liquid State.

What does it mean? With EDM festivals like Storm in China, and Ultra all across Asia, over 60% of the Asia-Pacific regions are EDM listeners. This population has since grown over the past 3 years.

Liquid State will develop original EDM content. Tencent’s streaming services, QQ Music, Kugou Music and Kuwo Music, Liquid State will surely capitalize on its large customer base. To help integrate into Asia, there will be an ambassador for every major Asian country. Chinese superstar Chris Lee will be the ambassador for China, singer and actor Nicholas Tse will be the ambassador for Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Seungri from BIGBANG will be the ambassador for South Korea. All three regions have long standing relationships with Tencent Music Entertainment.

Here’s a sneak peak of the initial roster: Chinese DJ Lizzy, Korean Duo Junkilla, Chinese American musician Zhu, and Dubai duo Hollaphonic are set to release music through the label this year!

Def Leppard Wants Skrillex to Remix “Pour Some Sugar On Me”

Apple Music recently took to Twitter to upload a rather interesting short video. The video shows Phil Collen, the guitarist for the band Def Leppard, sitting in a room full of guitars and amplifiers. He rambles on about why he is intrigued by dubstep, before dropping an interesting line, “What would be REALLY cool is if Skrillex done “Pour Some Sugar On Me”.

From there, the tweet links you to the Def Leppard catalogue on iTunes. This leaves fans wondering what exactly this short video or advertisement means. Is Def Leppard calling out Skrillex to remix their iconic record? Is Sonny already working on the project, and will soon release this? Without anything further evidence on their iTunes page, we can only be left to speculate. Check the video out for yourself below.

Zeds Dead x Ganja White Night – Samurai

Zeds Dead x Ganja White Night – Samurai

A haunting piano sets the vibe for this mega-collaboration beautifully, leading us to a sonic world full of unique textures and sounds. This tune is heavy as expected but it’s delivered in a evolutionary way that showcases both groups musicality. “Samurai” is one of the most beautiful and alluring electronic songs in bass music we’ve heard in a while and it certainly sets a strong tone for Ganja White Night’s forthcoming LP, The Origins, out everywhere February 5.

“These guys have been on top of the bass world for years now and hold some of the truest classics of the genre.” “We supported [Zeds Dead’s] Zach and Dylan on their Deadbeats performance in Seattle. Following their performance, we got a text from Dylan asking if we wanted to go B2B at an after party. We all got comfortable behind the decks together and the rest is history. Musically, we feel really good about how this song came together. We wanted to do something different, something that would surprise. We focused on creating an extended dramatic introduction and Zach and Dylan came in with their iconic drops. Once we had the pieces in place, we spent time going back and forth blending everything together and finding little pieces we could improve on. This was a real pleasure for us.” – Ganja White Night

You can listen to “Samurai” on Soundcloud below, and check back in on February 5th for the release of The Origins.

Armin van Buuren announced he will be releasing his first single of 2018, ‘Love, Sex, and Water’ tomorrow.

This new song will definitely add a new flavor to Armin’s legendary repertoire of music. He also tapped Conrad Sewell on the vocals, creating a tropical vibe. Conrad Sewell, an Australian singer, is best known within the EDM world for his amazing vocals on Kygo‘s track ‘Firestone’.

Armin is set to have an amazing 2018 (what’s new). The Dutch legend has consistently been a Trance icon since the 1990’s and doesn’t show any signs of slowing down. In fact, he’s already kicked off this year by becoming the first DJ to play upside down. Yeah you read that right.

Apart from that, Armin’s already been confirmed for the world’s biggest festivals, including Tomorrowland, Ultra Miami, Ultra Europe. These festivals follow the highly anticipated ASOT 850 Utrecht on February 17th which is sure to be epic.

We can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store for Armin van Buuren. And what better way to kick off 2018 than with some new music.

Ultra Music Festival Has Sold 90% Of Tickets, Putting Festival Lovers In A Panic

Ultra Music Festival, happening on March 23-25, 2018, created a major scare yesterday when they shared on all of their social media accounts that 90% of the event’s tickets have sold out. If you don’t act fast enough, you may have to watch from home.

In 2016 we saw a similar occurrence, where ticket sales were 90% sold out on December 26th, 2016 for the 19th year of the festival. Looking back even further, ticket sales for Ultra 2015 had 100% of their VIP tickets swiped by March 20th, 2015. This was only 7 days before their festival, but tickets for general admission were still available.

We’ve seen a major increase in Ultra’s ticket sales since 2015. So why the big increase in ticket sales? This East Coast festival in Miami, Florida has become more popular over the years as it continues to offer absolutely fire lineups each time. Over the years, this festival has grown bigger and better; it has been rated the second best music festival in the country, according to Joel Robertson.

We know you might be anxiously waiting for Phase 2 to still come out so you can start planning with friends to pick and choose who you want to see, but don’t wait for too long. As their 20th Anniversary nears, you’ll likel yneed to swipe a ticket within the next few days before it is completely sold out! This is the 20th anniversary, so go big or go home, right?

Ultimately, we hope that our fellow festival lovers purchased their tickets or can hop on them soon enough. We will see you in 50 day – and if you don’t get a ticket in time, better luck next year!

Instagram to Add Video Calling in Direct Messages

IG

Over time, Instagram continues to add on features to keep it’s users coming back and enjoy using their platform. Features such as being able to go live with multiple users, and the ability to add stories to your feed have been well received by most users. Instagram always looking to stay one step ahead of Snapchat, plans to add on one more interesting feature soon.

Tech blog WABetaInfo has reportedly leaked that Instagram has plans to add on Video Calling to their Direct Messages feature. The leak comes in the form of a screenshot that shows what appears to be a video call icon located at the top right of the screen in the direct messages feature.

The feature is set to appear only when you open an active chat with another user meaning they have to have accepted your direct message, otherwise it will not show up. Tapping on the icon initiates the video calling feature. Unfortunately, don’t expect to see it in an update too soon as the feature is still currently in development.

The update is expected to be ready in a few months time and is expected to roll out for both the iOS and Android versions of the application.

Slushii & Marshmello- There x2 [Preview]

Slushii & Marshmello- There x2 [Preview]

Slushii & Marshmello are at it again. Arguably the biggest accomplishment of Marshmello’s career has been his discovery of Jersey native Slushii. The two have made music together and remixed each other’s songs in past, and now they’ll be coming out with a new track this Friday titled ‘There x2’.

The preview is only 19 seconds long, but that’s plenty of time for you can get the idea of it. The track has that classic Marshmello and Slushii sound to it- upbeat chords, with a trap-like beat to match. Aside from the idea of an actual marshmallow slushy, this EDM pair seems to have found a tasty sound working together. You can check out the preview below in Slushii’s tweet.

Tale of Us – Error Error

Tale of Us – Error Error

Since 2011 Berlin based duo Tale of Us has steadily gained popularity for their haunting tracks and emotive techno sound. They released their debut album Endless last spring which was preceded by a few releases under their own Afterlife label. After dominating the scene with their Ibiza residency, Tale of Us continues to bring techno to the forefront with EP releases by Vaal, Stephan Bodzin, Mind Against & Aether and Patrice Bäumel on Afterlife. To get the party started for 2018 the duo brings us their new track ‘Error Error‘.

‘Error Error’ gives us a taste of what’s to come on Tale of Us’s fabric 97 compilation. Hypnotic chords and pulsating percussion give the track its core sound. Layer by layer, the track builds into a dark and sinister roar, having just the right amount of highs and lows to keep you hooked. Syncopated rhythms toward the end bring the track into a climatic point serving as evidence of the duo’s iconic talent. The track will be released again on February 16 on fabric 97, but for now take a listen to ‘Error Error’ below.

Google’s New Smart Camera, Clips, Is Now Available For $249

Google’s last launch event was four months ago, where they unveiled their new state-of-the-art gadgets. Pixel and Pixelbook were two items on this fancy list that are already available, but the smart camera Clips has taken some time but is finally out there for the public to buy.

The smart camera will set you back by $249 but it seems like quite a worthy investment based on its product description. Clip works parallel with AI and lets you enjoy your special moments while simultaneously capturing those moments on its own.

The reviews have been mixed as the camera was yet to make its way out into the market. Luckily enough, we don’t have to wait long now to test it ourselves as it is now available via the online Google Store. However, it looks like the orders have exceeded the production numbers that has led to the emergence of the ‘Join Waitlist’ button on the product page.

You can join the waitlist here. We hope you get an early delivery. Check out one of the reviews below and decide for yourself.

A Brand New Techno Festival Will Take Place in Military Barracks

Objekt 5001 Festival

There are few things in this world that go better than peanut butter and jelly. Milk and cookies, bacon and eggs, Carnage and crappy music… But what goes better than techno and Germany? Nothing. The pair is timeless.

Berliners’ undying affection for techno comes on par with a fondness for tangible memories of the German Democratic Republican (GDR) past, which is why the creators of 5001 Festival merged the two into an event that will undoubtedly become the rave highlight of your summer.

This brand new techno event will run on August 17th, 18th and 19th of this year. While there were rumours that it was going to take place at a long-abandoned nuclear bunker north of Berlin, the organizers confirmed this to be untrue.

“There will be no party inside the bunker. The festival takes place at Objekt 5001, the military barracks complex built to protect and conceal the bunker. Unfortunately, the bunker itself is still sealed and inaccessible at the moment.”

The festival will actually take place in the abandoned barracks area that was used to camouflage and protect the bunker. It was used as the main headquarters of the National Defense Council (NVR) of the GDR. In the event of an (atomic) attack, the NVR, chaired by Erich Honecker, would have assumed the political, economic and military leadership of the state from here.

There is definitely some pretty cool history behind it, as the bunker was built between 1978 and 1983.

While not in the bunker itself, the line-up is far from disappointing. Although there are only 12 out of 32 acts announced so far, the festival features performances from AcierateFrançois XRachel LynShlømoStephanie SykesTham, Tom Talenberg, and many more.

Because nothing says “techno” like an East German military site. You can learn more about the festival and purchase tickets here.
